Consultation

Expert Guidance for Complex Hoofcare and Whole-Horse Wellness

Sometimes you need some extra help!

Daisy Bicking offers personalized consultations for horse owners, farriers, veterinarians, and equine professionals seeking expert input on complex hoof conditions, rehabilitation planning, and integrative care strategies. With over 18 years of experience working on difficult cases—including laminitis, white line disease, navicular syndrome, and mechanical hoof distortion—Daisy brings both deep technical knowledge and a compassionate, whole-horse perspective.

Consultations are ideal if you're unsure how to move forward with your horse’s care, need help interpreting diagnostic results, or want a second opinion on a rehab or trimming plan. Daisy’s approach is based on her Postural Model of Integrative Hoofcare™, which emphasizes functional assessment, comfort-based decision-making, and collaborative, team-based support.

Virtual consultations are available worldwide via Zoom or phone and include a review of photos, x-rays, video, and case history. Daisy also offers in-person assessments as part of travel clinics or on-site rehab at Daisy Haven Farm.

Whether you're a horse owner struggling to understand what’s going on with your horse, or a professional seeking peer input on a challenging case, Daisy’s consultation services are designed to empower you with clarity, direction, and a plan you can feel good about.

Frequently Asked Qestions

What do you need for a consultation?

A detailed history of the horse leading up to the current concern is critical. Also recent hoof photographs and radiographs if available. Plus any diagnostic information from the veterinarian in charge of the horse’s case: blood work, other imaging, visit records, etc.

What kind of hoof photographs do you need?

The better the hoof photos, the more we can help you! We ask for images of the horse’s body, from the side, front, and back, and hoof photographs of the sole, side view, and front view. Hoof photographs should be taken with the provided protocol.

What kind of radiograph views do you need?

It is most helpful to have radiographic views of all four feet from the front and the side (lateral and DP). The lateral radiographs should have a marker of known length down the dorsal wall (30mm or similar length is helpful). Start the marker where the coronary band turns from hard to soft. The most benefit from digital imagery to your horse is when photographs are taken at the same time as the radiographs and sent together.

How much does it cost?

Consultation includes the time it takes for Daisy to review the information you provide about your horse, and the video meeting where Daisy walks you through her assessment and answers your questions. The fee is based on the time spent during your video meeting only. Video consultation rates are $300/hour and most consultations take an hour to an hour and half depending on the complexity of the situation. After the first hour, time is broken into 15 minute increments rounded to the closest 15 minute intervals. To secure your consultation, please submit the information requested on the request form, and your $300 payment via PayPal or Venmo with the link provided.

What do I get in return for the consultation?

You’ll get a one-on-one virtual visit with Daisy via zoom to help your horse. You'll review all the details and discuss your goals for your horse. Daisy will give you feedback and specific advice you can immediately implement to help you with the current situation at hand.

To ensure you get the most accurate and helpful feedback during your consultation, it's important to take clear, well-angled photographs of your horse’s hooves. Follow these guidelines for best results:

Before You Begin

  • Clean the hooves thoroughly — remove all dirt and debris so the hoof structure is clearly visible.

  • Clip excess hair around the coronary band — hair can obscure the hoof capsule and coronet, making it harder to assess accurately.

  • Use natural daylight — avoid shadows, harsh light, or dim conditions.

  • Stand the horse on a level, hard surface — such as concrete or asphalt.

  • Ensure hooves are dry — wet hooves can distort important details.

Positioning Matters

  • The horse should be standing squarely and bearing weight as evenly as possible.

  • Cannon bones should be vertical and perpendicular to the ground.

  • Avoid taking photos when hind legs are tucked under the body — this can distort the hoof/pastern alignment.

  • If possible, place a solid-colored background behind the leg to help the hoof stand out clearly in the image.

Photo Technique – “Mouse-Eye View”

Take all hoof photos from ground level, also known as “mouse-eye view”:

  • Hold the camera ½” to 1” off the ground, parallel to the ground surface.

  • Aim at the center of rotation of the hoof capsule.

  • The camera lens, limb, and background should be aligned and parallel to one another.

  • Use your camera’s grid to line up the ground plane and center the hoof in the frame.

Required Hoof Photo Angles

Take four photos per hoof, capturing the following views:

  1. Front View

    • Straight-on, showing the entire hoof from the toe to the coronet band.

  2. Side View

    • Taken at ground level, perpendicular to the hoof, with the cannon bone centered and vertical.

  3. Sole View

    • With the hoof lifted, photograph the entire sole including the toe, frog, bars, and heel area.

  4. Heel View (from behind)

    • Ground-level shot from directly behind, showing both heels and the bulbs.

Standing Horse Photos (Helpful for Context)

In addition to hoof photos, please include:

  • One photo of the entire horse from the side, standing square.

  • One rear view, showing hind limb and hoof alignment.

  • One front view, showing forelimb stance and hoof alignment.

Photo Submission Instructions

  • Label all photos clearly (e.g., “LF side,” “RH sole,” etc.).

  • Email all hoof photos and any other relevant materials (radiographs, videos, etc.) to [email protected], and include your horse’s name in the subject line.

  • You will be contacted in order to set up an appointment time.

  • If you have any questions or run into any issues, please contact us at [email protected] — we’re happy to help!
